Barwon Heads Road Upgrade Stage 2
We’re thrilled to share some news about Stage 2 of the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade. The Albanese Labor Government has earmarked an additional $68.2 million for the second stage of the Barwon Heads Road upgrade. This significant investment will enhance our local infrastructure, making our community even more attractive for current and prospective residents.
The project will encompass a 6-kilometre stretch of Barwon Heads Road, which will be transformed from a two-lane road into a modern four-lane arterial route. This upgrade will double the road’s capacity and feature new traffic lights, improved intersections, and a shared-use path that promotes safer, multi-modal transportation.
With the combined efforts of both the federal and state governments, a total of $318 million is being dedicated to this crucial project, highlighting a commitment to supporting the growth of our region. Works are set to commence in late 2025, with completion anticipated by 2028. This timeline reflects a proactive approach to accommodating the population surge we’ve been experiencing.
Armstrong Creek is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing suburbs, projected to welcome an additional 30,000 residents over the coming decades. The improvement to Barwon Heads Road is pivotal in ensuring our infrastructure can keep pace with this rapid expansion. As MP Libby Coker noted, the duplication will create a safer environment for all road users, enhancing traffic flow and minimizing congestion.
